Rodney Joffe a Winner at 2018 Computing Security Awards
We are very proud to announce that Internet pioneer Rodney Joffe, Neustar SVP, Senior Technologist and Fellow, was honored at the 2018 Computing Security Awards tonight in London. Rodney was recognized for his years of work and dedication in helping protect against cybercrime, winning "The Contribution to Cyber Security Award”.
Joffe beat out a strong field of competitors that included Kaspersky Lab’s David Emm, F-Secure’s Mikko Hypponen, Mimecast’s Neil Murray and National Cyber Security Centre’s Ian Levy. Previously a cybersecurity adviser to the White House – and with connections to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) – Rodney has devoted more than 20 years to investigating and preventing cyberattacks and malicious web activity, with eight patents to his name.
His accomplishments include founding the first commercial Internet hosting company, Genuity, as well as the first outsourced and cloud-based DNS company, UltraDNS, where he invented Anycast Technology for DNS. After Neustar’s acquisition of Ultra DNS in 2006, Rodney became an executive with the company.
Joffe has sat on the U.S. government’s cybersecurity intelligence panel and was a leader of the Conficker Working Group. He is one of the first civilians to receive the FBI Director’s Award for outstanding cyber investigating, due in no small part to his role in uncovering and taking down the Butterfly Botnet. He has also been honored with the Mary Litynski Lifetime Achievement Award from M3AAWG, the global Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group.
Joffe is also the chairman of the Neustar International Security Council (NISC), which is comprised of an elite group of cybersecurity leaders across industries and companies who meet regularly to discuss the latest cyberattack trends.
With a strong interest in protecting networks, Joffe has created a number of sophisticated technologies known as DNS Shield, which today protects more than 300 million consumers and businesses from DNS outages.
Neustar DNS Shield was voted “Best Emerging Technology” at the SC Awards Europe earlier this year and was named “Innovative Product of the Year” at the 2017 Cyber Security Awards. These recent accomplishments are a testament to the ongoing dedication of Neustar’s outstanding team of security solutions engineers to create the best technologies, allowing our customers to defend their network infrastructures against the ever-growing threat of DDoS attacks by cyber criminals.
